In recent years, the Beninese government has been using its cultural heritage to boost tourism. This has resulted in the return of 26 royal treasures from France in November 2021. Against this backdrop, artist Amir Alli created the musical comedy “The Throne of Béhanzin”. The show tells the story of King Béhanzin’s rise to power and his eventual exile to Martinique. The piece aims to make this relatively unknown period of history more accessible to a wider audience. FRANCE 24’s team reports.
