Heartworms has shared a foreboding new single titled ‘Extraordinary Wings’. Check it out below.
the new track from the South London artist and for-punishment-3826193″>NME Cover star comes as the latest preview of her highly anticipated album ‘Glutton For Punishment’. The debut album is set for release on February 7 via Speedy Wunderground.
with an accompanying music video directed by frequent collaborator Gilbert Trejo, the new single arrives on the heels of ‘Warplane’ and continues to pay homage to the singer’s love of military aircraft.
“You have intentions of a bird/ Teach me your logistics on to fly like that/ You came to me so suddenly/ Now you’re here and I like it like that,” she begins to sing as the song builds. “I don’t have the time of day to tell you what I want to hear/ That’s why I cover both of my ears/ Your intentions are a bird I fear.”

Speaking about the upcoming album as a whole, the artist – real name Jojo Orme – explained how it sees her push herself further than the critically acclaimed 2023 EP ‘A Comforting Notion’.
“With my EP, people kind of pigeonholed me into post-punk,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Cool, I can do that, but I can also do way more’ – I can do post-punk, but I can also be poppy and catchy, and this album represents that. I think people might be surprised when they hear it.”
Produced by longtime collaborator Dan Carey, the LP is also set to make nods to artists like Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey and LCD Soundsystem, creating what a press release describes as “a powerful sonic onslaught that is entirely Heartworms.”
Comprised of nine songs, it is also set to explore themes of broken families and broken relationships, along with a sense of embracing chaos. “We’re all so drawn to punishing ourselves, and I’m always drawn to singing about it, and thinking about it,” Orme said. Visit here to pre-order the album.
The new single from Heartworms arrives as she appears as NME’s latest Cover star. In the feature, Orme explained how she came to craft her unique vision, as well as why she tends to lean into the darker aspects of her sound.
“I feel comfortable in it,” she said. “I mean, happiness is not even a real emotion to me. There’s joy in a moment, or content. Most of the time, I’m not content – I’m in a dark place and trying to figure things out. That’s just the way I am, and I’m always going to be this way.”
Later, the singer-songwriter also recalled how her relationship with her family had become a source of inspiration. “It’s always played into my mind and creativity. It’s something that I’ve always held onto and will never stop thinking about it,” she recalled.
To accompany her Cover story, Heartworms also compiled an exclusive playlist – check it out below.

Back in 2023, Heartworms’ ‘A Comforting Notion’ EP was given a five-star review by NME. “There’s a real depth to Heartworms’ music that matches the image, and proves her to be a true and powerful outlier of her time. It’s quite likely that Heartworms will never fill stadiums, but she could change your world,” it read.
“‘A Comforting Notion’ feels urgent and important, brimming with all the promise of the next great cult act.”
Later, her London show at Village Underground also scored full marks, with NME concluding: “It’s clear there’s already a movement here. This is not just a pastiche of what you’d expect from ‘UK GOTHIC POST PUNK’, this is already a fully-rounded world delivered with courage and intent.”
