Former home secretary James Cleverly is out of the leadership contest, despite a shock surge in votes yesterday.
Kemi Badenoch received the backing of 42 MPs, Robert Jenrick got 41 and James Cleverly had 37.
Robert Jenrick and Kemi Badenoch are the final two candidates, and party members will decide their next leader in a ballot over the next three weeks.

None of these candidates have strong leadership skills or have that certain something that makes them stand out from the crowd (Johnson had it & Farage has more than all of the Conservative leadership candidate's put together). The fact that this is the best that they could put forward says a lot about the modern Conservative Party, to be honest it's pathetic. If the Conservatives were serious about governing again they'd have pulled out every stop to get Farage as leader. I used to vote Conservative too but my sense of loyalty to this country would not let me vote for this lot. I urge everyone to vote Reform, they might not be perfect but they are the best hope this country now has & we need to get rid asap of this Communist party that very cleverly hijacked the Labour party name & managed to hoodwink an awful lot of people.

Never trusted that Cleverley guy, glad he’s out. But how much does any of it matter? Whoever wins will only be a gatekeeper, there’s no way either of them are going to be leading the Tories into the next election, which they are going to lose in any case. The Tories’ woes all ultimately lead back to Boris Johnson, whose most memorable legacy will be the death of the Conservative Party.
