Robert Jenrick says he’s the man with a ‘plan’ | Conservative leadership election

Robert Jenrick has told Sky News the final weeks of the Conservative leadership election campaign will be a “clean” fight between him and Kemi Badenoch.

The two of them will contest the leadership after James Cleverly was surprisingly knocked out of the race, a result that raised eyebrows among political pundits.

Mr Cleverly had been the frontrunner on Tuesday, after winning the third round of voting.

But he managed just 37 votes on Wednesday, behind Ms Badenoch, who received the backing of 42 MPs, and Robert Jenrick, who got 41 votes.

  2. Fake Conservatives! UK populacional is fed up !

  3. Robert Jenrick has admitted that he and a junior minister approved payments to towns in each other’s constituencies from a government fund earmarked for deprived areas.

The communities secretary confirmed that communities minister Jake Berry gave the go-ahead for Jenrick’s Newark constituency to be selected for a £25m fund award even though it was 270th on the list of the UK’s most deprived areas.

Jenrick said he signed off the decision for money to be allocated to Darwen, a town in Berry’s Rossendale and Darwen constituency.

On Sunday, Jenrick insisted there was a “robust and fair” methodology behind the government’s towns fund and dismissed as “completely baseless” allegations that he had any involvement in Newark’s selection. This candidate is not to be trusted

  12. Conservatives shoot themselves in the foot yet again no one would even think of voting for either of these two!! All words and no do!! this Guy is the same as the rest I will never vote for this rabble again… And Labour too !!

  13. "So many parliamentary colleagues" There's only 120 of them left and Jenrick only managed to get a third of them!

  14. Given they failed miserably to achieve any of their stated goals for 14 years, why would anyone put their faith in them unless they radically changed their policy platform?

  15. The conservatives are done and dusted
