‘Shogun’ wins best drama, ‘Hacks’ surprises in comedy at TV’s Emmys • FRANCE 24 English

“Shogun,” a sweeping, historical epic set in imperial Japan, claimed the prestigious best drama trophy at Sunday’s Emmy Awards, and “Hacks” upset defending comedy champion “The Bear” at television’s highest honours. A tale of political machinations, “Shogun” also won acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, the first Japaneseactors to win their categories. The series earned 19 total awards, a record for a single season of a drama.

  1. Japanese dramas are coming to the fore and are being viewed by a wider audience in the West. Shogun may be the first trailblazer, but others like Ronin which tells the story of samurais who go out to avenge their daimyo's death is clearly one which most western viewers would enjoy.

    A miniseries about Musashi Miyamoto, (he fought with the Osaka faction against Ieyasu at the battle of Sekigahara in 1600) which tells the story of the greatest swordsman that ever lived would be a big office draw and would be appreciated by many in the West. It would sweep the Emmys
