HE cost Celtic £4.3million back 18 months ago.

But he’s only played ten league games since joining the Hoops – and now he could be on his way to the EFL.

Maik Nawrocki played 30 games for the Legia Warsaw side that won a Polish Cup and Super Cup double in 2022-23.

And Hoops fans had high hopes for him when he joined under Brendan Rodgers in July 2023.

But after only making sporadic appearances in his debut season he’s been seen even less this campaign.

Indeed, he wasn’t involved today as Celtic beat Ross County 4-1 in Dingwall.

Nawrocki, 23, has played a grand total of five minutes this season and that came in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup against Falkirk.

He’s behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales in the pecking order at Celtic Park. His limited appearances mean he has effectively cost the Hoops £430,000 PER GAME.

He would also have been below Stephen Welsh but he’s been allowed to join Mechelen on loan, though Dane Murray was recalled from Queen‘s Park to perhaps take his place.

According to the Daily Record, Nawrocki could be on the move this month with Championship side Oxford United interested in him.

It’s being reported that it would be a loan switch until the next season, with Oxford keen to maintain their place in the second tier after winning promotion via the League One play-offs last year.

Oxford have had new Indonesian owners since September 2022 and are currently managed by the experienced Gary Rowett.

Why did Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers create an issue over fans’ Kieran Tierney song?

He only took over from Des Buckingham last month but has so far won three of his five games in charge, with one draw and one win.

Nawrocki was born in Germany and began his pro career with Werder Bremen but left in 2022.

He had loan spells with Warta Poznan and Legia Warsaw before sealing a move to the latter.

Nawrocki made a total of 31 appearances at various youth levels for Poland but is yet to play a full international.

Meanwhile, David Moyes has been confirmed as the new Everton manager, returning to the club where he made his name in the noughties.
