Shlomi was founded as a Ma'abara in 1950 by Jewish immigrants from Tunisia and Morocco on the ruins of a Palestinian village of al-Bassa, which had been destroyed during what the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, and which Adolf Neubauer "proposed to identify… with the Batzet of the Talmud".The Palestinian Arab village was stormed by Haganah troops in May 1948 and almost completely razed. Its residents were either internally displaced or expelled to neighboring countries.
Whenever Sky news brings to my attention the plight of Israelis living in a certain town or village in northern Israel I always now look for the history of that place. And without exception (up to yet) I've discovered that area was once occupied by Palestinians who fled under the threat of Haganah etc.
The irony isn't lost on me.
And if I can very easily discover this, why can't media outlets like Sky News, for balance? 🙄
