I went to one of the nation's best high schools, a private boarding school (traditional not residential) less than 30 miles from the Carlisle Indian School, yet I never learned a thing about this dark period in US history. It was not mentioned in any of my college classes, nor was it mentioned in graduate school. It wasn't until I was 32 years old and read "In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts" by Gabor Mate that I heard the term "Residential School". It's my sincere hope that President Biden's actions can finally remove the cloak that has been hiding this for so long and start us down the road to healing!

As an African American I am truly happy to see that a President had the heart and desire to apologize for what they did to native Americans. Hopefully, one day a President will have the heart and desire to apologize to African Americans for the horrors we commonly suffered all the way up to the 70s. Maybe one day it will be but I’m certainly not going to hold my breath. It is what it is.

This is exceptionally good news, this all-important apology and statement of recognition of the Federal Government's abuse of the native peoples over 150 years or more. Biden's emphatic, dedicated leadership to acknowledge the sacred rights of the Native Peoples should be acknowledged more widely in the mainstreat press that ignores things of real importance. Deb Haaland's pivotal leadership in reporesenting the First People's is one of the most inspiring occurences I've ever seen in my long life as an educator and psychotherapist who has been deeply influenced by Native wisdom. It is they who carry the wisdom to heal our earth. Like all indigenous peoples they are the ones who know. how to read and interact with the earth for the benefit of all. Please, give this turning point in the nation's ugly legacy with the native peoples, breaking promises, back-stabbing, exploiting, dishonest, the worst of the worst treatment. Oct 25 marks a significant beginning in the cleaning of the soul of America, of re-establishing right-relationships. Thank you for showing this event. Please FOLLOW UP. TRACK THIS STUFF!

The Natives they don’t like to be called Indians is like a big offence. The president didn’t know that like me. A native got really made at me in Yuma, Az. When I called a reseptionist to let her know that a big Indian was trying to open the doors in a hotel. She really got mad at me for saying Indian. I tried to tell her that I had Indian too but she got more pitts. She kept saying Native. I talked to my husband about it and he said because the indians are the Hindus that the Spaniards are the one that named them Indians because 25:35 when the Spaniard came to America they thought they where Hindus.

This is the action I prophecized long ago that would have to occur before the painful decline of America’s star could be halted. Until we as a nation did right by Native Americans, our karma would not let America’s star rise again, I knew it and said it out loud. Now the apology and acknowledgement have been formally provided.
