First ‘personalised’ melanoma skin cancer vaccine trial under way in UK | BBC News

A trial of the world’s first “personalised” vaccine against the deadliest form of skin cancer is under way in the UK.

The mRNA vaccine is designed to help patient’s immune systems to recognise and wipe out cancerous melanoma cells.

It is personalised to the individual patient – with its make-up created to match the unique genetic signature of the patient’s own tumour, and works by instructing the body to make proteins or antibodies that attack markers or antigens found only on those cancer cells.

Experts in some other countries, including Australia, are also trying it on patients, to gather more evidence and see whether it should be rolled out more widely.

  4. Hope for so many kudos to all the scientists involved ❤

  5. Willing subjects r required for trials to boost the burgeoning UK biotech sector
So far, the evidence is sketchy
Note the tentative language eg ‘could’

UK has been designated a major global Biotech centre –
huge amounts of invested capital r riding on positive outcomes

  6. Go get a tan 😂

  7. If it works for lungs too this would be great for non smokers like myself who still unintentionally are near to 2nd hand smoke exposure to some degree

  8. Your thoughtfulness and thoroughness contributed to speeding up my healing process . I wonder what could have become of me if you weren't the one who handled my case . Thank you for curing my Cancer stage 4, drlawsonhealinghome

  9. probably speed up the cancer or help form another kind

  10. I remember this from " im legend" so no thanks

  11. Because the mRNA jabs were so safe for covid. The human race is done for

  12. The covid jabs were a failure, are the efficacy tests the same as the covid jabs? If they are I would be very careful about them. Pfizer has bought all the 'turbo cancer' cures out there…

  13. wHaT coULd pLaUsiBLy gO wRoNg ??!?!??
never forget that the biG pHARmeR lOvEs yOu !!!

  14. Hello I Am Legend this is my prediction to the movie to I Am Legend

  15. yeah. no thanks. you can keep it.

  16. Movie "I Am Legend"…..Anyone?

  17. This news is very helpful❤❤

  18. Vaccines are always safe and effective

  19. My melanoma was removed from my hip in 1981 at Stoke Manderville Hospital. After 6 months of regular visits, I was pronounced cured, but told to contact the hospital if any symptoms recurred. The didn't. the hospital did a brilliant job.. I hope other patients get treatment as good as I did. Even better news, Jimmy Saville did not show up.

  20. Immune memory is possibly the greatest protection against recurrence of cancer. If a vaccination like this is successful, it would mean that memory cells would be formed so that even if the cancer recurred, the immune system would be effective at killing the cancer before the cancer could become harmful. The challenge is in creating a vaccine against the numerous types of cancers and markers on cells that indicate the cell has become cancerous.

  21. Trust the science guys 👍
Where have i heard that before

  22. Imagine the world if, following the united world cooperation against Covid, all countries could continue unite and work together for the greater good, to solve the many other major problems we face as the human race.

  23. Considering the COVID vaccine is now confirmed in many medical journals to be the cause of the significant increase in fatal heart attacks and cancer, I would be very cautious about this.

  24. An alternate strategy would be to stay out of the sun but that is probably too simple for these rather dull knives.

  25. This is really good news and I hope these trials are successful. My one fear is that the big pharma will get involved in this as a means to boost their already bloated profit margins. I hope this doesn't happen

  26. Protect this man from big pharma

  27. Excellent! Given that melanoma has an inverse correlation with sun exposure (climbing at higher latitudes, higher in blue collar workers, higher in sunscreen users etc) will this product entirely replace the benefits of such exposure or is its job simply to return the metastized melanin back to subcutenous cells and prevent the melanoma from growing? Also will it help with the nonlethal "cosmetic cancers" such as bcc and scc? Finally, will it assist in improving the poor mitochondrial redox melanoma sufferers bear without the need for sun or cold treatments? Very interested.

  28. What a great advance. Cancer is less frightening with time and discoveries. Bravo to our scientists 🙂

  29. It's better to just not eat for a week and let your body do the work naturally.

  30. No more suncream yeahhh

  31. Crazy! People are voluntarily becoming GMO's because they literally cannot stand up anymore against fear. We need to remember how valuable and powerful we are, and that these people merely try to mirror us to how they see themselves; meaning: with extremely low self-worth!

  32. A vaccine for Melanoma? Trump will NOT like this.

  33. bbc, give cure

  34. Sorry, but no thanks!

  35. China's human rights have fallen back to the feudal era of imperial power! The people no longer have the rights to speak publicly!

  36. So a cure for some cancers?

  37. Whatever the actual result, they will find a way to manipulate the numbers to say it's a resounding success.
