Pope Francis arrived in Singapore on Wednesday afternoon from East Timor, where he is expected to focus on inter-faith dialogue and reinforce the Catholic Church’s presence in a region where it is a small minority. Francis will also celebrate a Mass the Vatican expects to draw some 55,000 people, including Catholics who are travelling from Hong Kong for the event. The Vatican is currently renegotiating a controversial deal with China over the appointment of Catholic bishops in the country, which is up for renewal in October.

Pope visits Singapore
Western media, unprovoked: CHINA CHINA CHINA
@symphony2515
What kind of reporting is this? His visit to singapore has nothing to do with China. Pope didn’t even utter one word about China while in Asia. French media just picking points to support their one sides narrative. Nobody cares

Don't think too much! This visit to Singapore has got nothing to do with China,nor sending any message to Beijing! Don't mix religion with politics! This visit to multi-ethnic,multi-cultural Singapore is to showcase how people of different groups can live together in harmony unlike some wars in Gaza or far-right groups in US and far-right intolerance against people of colour,against Asians in Great Britain! How can a visit to Singapore be sending a message to China,when the Foreign Minister of Singapore,Dr Vivian Balakrishnan immediately left for Beijing before the arrival of the Pope to organise an upcoming official visit to Beijing by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong,his first overseas visit to a foreign country,other than customary Asean countries' introductory visits? Get Real,Europe!

Pope Francis hopes to visit China, normalize relations with Beijing, may terminate relations with Taiwan
The Vatican issued a statement on August 27 stating that the appointment of Bishop Shi Hongzhen of the Catholic Diocese of Tianjin, who was under house arrest for refusing to join the government-supported Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association, has been recognized by the Chinese government, and the Vatican News Office expressed satisfaction with this. Some Catholic media said that in order to further develop Vatican-China relations and even personally open a second diplomatic channel for dialogue, the Pope may terminate diplomatic relations with Taiwan in order to realize his dream of visiting China.

China and The Holy See do not have diplomatic ties or embassies on each other's territories. The Vatican does not recognise the One China concept and is one of the few holdout countries who still has consulates or embassies in Taipei.
A situation which has to change if relations are to be repaired with the Middle Kingdom.
