Android owners warned of WhatsApp bug that breaks phone calls – but there’s a simple trick to avoid it

ANDROID owners on WhatsApp have been warned of a bug that can disrupt phones calls.

the bug mutes the microphone when users click off the app or when the screen dims.

It means phone calls may cut out when an Android user opens another app while on speaker phone.

Or, when they haven’t tapped the screen in a while.

Posts from affected users on Reddit, and some other online forums, suggest the issue has been ongoing for some time, Tech-Issues Today first reported.

A OnePlus community post complaining about the issue was published in 2019 – suggesting the issue arose nearly six years ago.

“Whenever I am on a WhatsApp call and shift to a different app during the call, my voice is automatically getting muted,” the user wrote.

“Once I get back to the WhatsApp app, it’s working fine again.

“Same is the case when the screen gets locked while I’m on the WhatsApp call.

“Until I get back to the WhatsApp app, the other person on the call cannot hear my voice.

“This is causing a lot of trouble as I have to keep tapping or can’t move to other apps during the call.”

There has yet to be a formal fix from Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp.

Deleting and reinstalling the app doesn’t appear to remedy it, either.

The bug reportedly affects all kinds of Android devices, from a number of brands including Google, Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi.

To avoid the issue, simply make sure you stay in the app when making calls.

Most phone calls will be kept inside the app anyway.

Although the bug may be particularly frustrating to all the multi-taskers out there.
