Manchester City have reportedly agreed to sign Palmeiras’ highly rated centre-back Vitor Reis in a deal worth £29.4m.
the Brazilian defender is just 19 and only made his top-flight debut in June. However, Reis scored on his first league start for Palmeiras and has rarely been displaced from the starting XI over the subsequent six months.
Reis had previously attracted interest from Real Madrid, but City have acted decisively in what has already proven to be a hectic January transfer window. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Premier League champions have reached a verbal agreement with Palmeiras and the player in question ahead of a move to bring Reis to Manchester immediately.
The Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan reported the fee to be £29.4m, marginally less than the original asking price of €40m (£33.6m).
City are already closing in on the arrival of another talented young defender in the form of Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov. The 20-year-old has reportedly agreed to a £33.6m move as Pep Guardiola desperately tries to bolster his injury-riddled squad.
Experienced full-back Kyle Walker may well be on his way out of the Etihad this month, with a deal to take the England international to AC Milan “virtually done”.
Guardiola‘s side are not limited to defensive recruits. The defending top-flight champions have been heavily linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush. While Reis and Khusanov are expected to join for relatively modest fees, Frankfurt are thought to be demanding as much as €80m (£67.4m) for their talismanic forward.
