Real Madrid have asked Endrick to remain patient, with the young striker tipped to delay any decision about his future with the club until the summer after a frustrating start to his time in Europe.
Hype surrounding Endrick was able to build for more than 18 months, with Madrid securing a €60m (£50m) deal when the teenage prodigy when he was just 16.
The Brazilian finally made the move to Spain upon turning 18 last summer but has found it tough to command playing time amid competition from Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe. The presence of Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler only adds to that, prompting rumours of a move away from the Spanish capital.
Endrick has made 16 appearances, totalling just 250 minutes, and hasn’t scored since 17 September.
Likely to his relief, the 18-year-old did start Madrid’s Copa del Rey tie against fourth tier Minera on Monday night, in what was billed as his “last chance”. As predicted, even a rotated side dominated the contest, peppering the home side’s goal with 21 shots on target throughout the 5-0 win, although Endrick wasn’t among the scorers.
The Athletic writes that Madrid have asked Endrick, who scored international goals against England and Spain last season while still a Palmeiras player, to be patient. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo similarly made pre-arranged moves at a young age and weren’t instant superstars, with Endrick actually appearing in more games so far than either had done during their respective first season.
Endrick has no current plan to leave the Bernabeu during the January transfer window but is expected to address the situation at the end of the season if things stay the same.
Although Madrid have enjoyed smash hits with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, Barcelona discovered that not every expensively-signed teenager from South America is a success. Vitor Roque lasted only six months before being farmed out on loan to Real Betis, where he has scored four La Liga goals.
