A computer scientist at the forefront of the artificial intelligence revolution has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Sir Demis Hassabis helped develop the AI model, AlphaFold, which can accurately predict the structure of millions of proteins found in every living thing around us.
He spoke to Sky News about the moment he found out he had won, the benefits and risks of AI and the importance gaming has played in his career.

What struck me is that he is so young for a Nobel Prize winner. Then, investigating his work, I found that the proprietary software AlphaFold was released in 2018. 2018 !!! And 6y later he shares the Nobel Prize for it .. Scientists normally wait their whole professional lives for their results to gain recognition and influence. Doing it in six years is just unfathomable. People complete their PhD in six years. This is perhaps the most clear example of how fast the world is changing. We are in effective vertical growth. I really don't know what's next

He's the kind of guy I trust with developing AI way more than the Sam Altman and Elon Musk types. I also think going after the hardest problems in medicine is probably the best and most straightforward use-case for AI that exists. We can't have a population of dementia patients in wheelchairs by 2050, which is where we're headed.
And I think Google will ultimately win the AI 'race', although I wish it wasn't a race. DeepMind is an incredible company and Google has more resources than anybody else without even trying.
